Sunderland skipper Corry Evans is relishing the English League One playoff tie with Sheffield Wednesday starting with the first leg on Friday. Corry Evans while speaking ahead of the first leg at the Stadium of Light said that his team will have to take the form from their second league meeting with the Owls this season into the game on Friday as monitored by media outlet Examiner Live.

Corry Evans is an important player for a Sunderland side in good form under new manager Alex Neil. The win over Morecambe in their final league game of the regular season ensured that the Black Cats sealed fifth spot on the final League One table and also made it 13 games without a defeat. Also, Sunderland have lost just once in 15 league matches since the aforementioned Neil became their manager.

When Sunderland and Sheffield Wednesday met last in the league, it was the Black Cats who ran out 5-0 winners at home against the Owls at the end of the game played in December 2021. At the time, the Sheffield Wednesday squad members were recovering from a Covid-19 outbreak in their camp. Sunderland were able to avenge their 3-0 defeat at the hands of Sheffield Wednesday in their first league meeting of the season earlier in the campaign. For their playoff tie, Sunderland will play hosts to Sheffield Wednesday in the first leg later this week before the two teams met in Hillsborough for the second leg on Monday. The winner of the League One playoff semifinal tie will meet the winner of the other semifinal tie between MK Dons and Wycombe Wanderers to determine the team who will seal promotion to the Championship. The playoff final will take place on Saturday, May 21, 2022.
